Made as a companion face to his roman version of Deepdene, type designer FW Goudy intended that Deepdene Italic "would be found worthy to stand alone" as a typeface. An elegant face, when used with the "swash" capitals that Goudy designed for it, Deepdene Italic has a calligraphic look that makes it much more flexible than most italics.
Deepdene Italic and Deepdene are the "house fonts" of The Grunge Papers.
Please note that the printing in the image above is somewhat larger than "life size". Between that and the less-than-ideal resolution of the digital photo, the imprint of the type appears larger and rougher than it actually is.
